Welcome to GLSEN - Pittsburgh, the only GLSEN in Pennsylvania!

GLSEN Pittsburgh works to create safe school environments for K-12 students. We believe that a safe and welcoming school environment is essential for learning and healthy development, and that the uniqueness of each student must be valued. Research shows that young people are most likely to be bullied based on their perceived or actual sexual orientation or gender identity or expression. Therefore, our work emphasizes, but extends beyond, issues affecting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) students, demonstrating concern for the safety and well being of all students.

In support of our mission, we engage current and aspiring educators, staff and students in dialogue and training programs designed to prevent bullying in our 11-County service area of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

We help educators develop practices and policies that create safe school environments. We advocate for safe schools at the federal, state, local and school level. We deliver programs and offer useful tools and resources proven to make a difference in the school climate. We help develop student leaders who want to bring about change and make a positive impact on the culture of their respective schools.
